In celebration of six years on the channel, we’re going back to where it all began - the Sidecar! This was the first cocktail I featured, and it’s the drink that got me hooked on classic cocktails years ago. Just for fun, we’re also making the Alabazam (love the name), a similar drink that predates the Sidecar by over 40 years. Feel free to mix along at home. How to Make The sidecar

  • Perfect balance of Cognac to orange

  • Bright & light

Tips

  • Pour cocktail just below the sugar rim

  1. Grab half a lemon

  2. Rub lemon on the rim of the glass

  3. Turn glass upside down and place in sugar 

  4. Set glass in freezer

  5. Begin with a shaking tin

  6. Pour in 1.5 oz. of Cognac

  7. Next, add in 1 oz. of Curacao

  8. Then, pour in ½ oz. fresh lemon juice

  9. Lastly, add in 3 dashes of Absinthe

  10. Add ice, and shake for 15 seconds

  11. Double strain into a chilled glass

  12. Cheers & enjoy!

The sidecar recipe

  1. Pour in 1.5 oz. of Cognac

  2. Next, add in 1/2 oz. Cointreau

  3. Then, pour in 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice

  4. Pour in 1/2 oz. semi-rich simple syrup

  5. Lastly, add in a barspoon of Angostura Bitters

  6. Add ice, and shake

  7. Double strain into a chilled glass

  8. Cheers & enjoy!

The alabazam recipe

  • 1.5 oz. (45 ml) Maison Rouge VSOP Cognac

  • 1 oz. (30 ml) Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao

  • 1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice

  • Sugared Rim

  • 1/2 oz. (15 ml) Cointreau

  • 3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) fresh lemon juice

  • 1/2 oz. (15 ml) semi-rich simple syrup (1.5:1 sugar:water)

  • 1 barspoon (~5 ml) Angostura Bitters
